Hello, Tuesday...there's hope for you yet, dear. Of this I am sure.
So I'm sitting here listening to Kanye, who always somehow brings me some inspiration. Anyone that can rap about Phoebe Philo is pretty fucking genius. (Jay Z and Martin Margiela ain't bad either). Besides that, Kanye's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is one hell of an album. I adore it and it makes me smile. But I digress. Because sometimes I wonder if I'll still be listening to Kanye when I'm slightly more long in the tooth, let alone what kind of clothes I'll be wearing. I'll surely care about fashion until I die, of this I know.
So I was very happy to find this link on the Nowness, about fashion amongst the aged. There's a little film from the Advanced Style blog showcasing the grand style of elder fashion stateswoman like Iris Apfel. It's an eccentric take on fashion, really- think Simon Doonan's "Wacky Chicks" comingled with the whimsical eccentricity of Peggy Guggenheim (of whom I would like to model my life after and channel as I get older).
I just love how these women approach fashion- how there is no fear, an embrace of all out kooky, and a love for a good sense of humor when it comes to self expression. This take on dressing is much like aging itself- the fearlessness you develop as well as the acceptance of who you are and what you stand for. G-d bless these women for owning their looks and being so fabulous. Totally warmed my day, and reminded me of another favorite icon of old age from yesteryear, Ruth Gordon in "Harold and Maude", who had a style all her own that I adored as a young girl beyond belief. Why can't we start celebrating our age instead of trying to erase it? Perhaps with sites like this, we will get there one day; we need to treasure this segment of our population and applaud their personal style and lust for life. Link to the original link below, as well as the great blog on all things advanced style, so genius. I fully expect to be completely over the top as I become more and more gray, and look forward to knowing myself and my inimitable style in the years to come. No doubt about that...
Cause that's what's up this brilliantly eccentric and time marches on of a Tuesday in the MIA. XO
