What to Wear: The Met Ball edition

Good morning, Thursday. It's magically delicious outside so I'm a happy girl...highs in the mid 60s is just right. Love it.

So with the much anticipated and tremendously fashpirational Met Ball coming up on May 6th (my invite must have gotten lost in the mail), I found myself thinking about what I would wear to such an event, where the pressure is beyond ON to be fabulous beyond reason. With the Punk show coming up at the Met, you can bet there will be some heavy duty nods to anarchy in the UK on the red carpet. I thought it may be wise to wear McQueen- and even though his show at the Met is gone, his amazing spirit lives on in each one of us, and below. Those last two are just right for me - nothing chicer than wearing pants to a gown event.

And while we're on the punk train, we might as well consider Vivienne Westwood to outfit us- her rebelliousness is just right for fashion's biggest night out, as are those two vintage Galliano gowns whose over the tippy topness are just beyond.

And speaking of over the top,  I've had Lacroix on the brain- as he's reviving Schiaparelli with a small collection (Schiaparelli also had a show at the Met). Lacroix's fauvish, gilded and baroque view of how women should dress was a huge part of 80s fashion DNA and legend. I would die to wear an old school piece of his and pretend I'm Princess Gloria TNT for the night. Below is a fabulous rendering he did of Sonia Rykiel way back when as well as a vintage runway piece. Yes. Oh and that black and white photo is the princess back in the day, before she got all religious and weird.
And then of course is this new bohemia we can't seem to get enough of (more on that tomorrow). Hedi Slimane's Fall 2013 collection for YSL was sort of grunge but these looks are alllll kinds of punk- and wearing one of these dresses would make me feel at the height of haute while decidedly hot. I am obsessed and remain humbled by this stellar, sexy collection. Yes please. Oh and it's never not alright to go vintage Yves and rock a le smoking- come on now, what's better? Sure none of them are very punk, but the tux is androgynous and cool and could be deconstructed to skew more punk, and these other looks are just cooler than you (or me) and that's that.

All in all, it would be a beyond fabulous night. Beyonce is the honorary chair, punk is alive and well in the halls of one of New York's most beautiful museums, and the fashion flocks will be in full peacock to celebrate such things. (PS Beyonce not so punk rock, though perhaps the independent woman thing ties in...) Ooh and last minute- how about some studded Balmain ? Oh and I'm calling someone rocking this 1994 Versace safety pin dress...it couldn't be more perfect for perfect bods like Anja Rubik, Stacey Keibler, or Heidi Klum.
Welp, that's all I've got for today- if you are going to the Met Ball and could use some guidance, I'm here for you. Cause that's what's up this fashionably punk kind of Thursday in the 212- check out the below for some more inspiration.G-d Save.  Oh how I am looking forward to this show at the Met as well as the looks from the ball.
