Maven recommends: A Very Murray Christmas

Good afternoon, Monday. It was a lovely weekend full of holiday cheer- from awesome fun times at the transported Phoenicia Flea in Gowanus to (too much) holiday cheer with dear friends to Khan and Santa having a hang, all was lovely.

And listen, it's not like I am immune to a case of the holiday blues. We all get them from time to time and with so much tragedy around us and on the news, it's hard to be in the mood for the holidays, let alone getting out of bed in the morning.

But leave it to Bill Murray to knock the Scroogiest of Scrooges out of that funk- with his amazing "Very Murray Christmas" special on Netflix, Murray's sweet take on holiday classics has his usual quirky charm, and my affection for his whole being is off the charts. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the special premiered Friday with cameos from Miley Cyrus to Maya Rudolph to Jason Schwartzman  to Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, and Rashida Jones (David Johansen's pompadoured boozy bartender stole the show for me), this modern take on the much loved holiday special did not disappoint. Because there are worse things than getting snowed in at the Carlyle Hotel with Bill Murray. I have always had a crush on him, and that's the truth.

The whole thing was good for my soul, and if you are feeling like the whole cliched holiday thing is overdone, give it a shot. Murray happens to have a pretty terrific voice for singing those old tired classics, while Paul Shaffer's accompaniment is excellent as usual. Oh and Clooney.

Well done all around by Sofia and Bill- adore their brand of holiday quirk, even if last night was the first night of Hanukkah, I very much found myself in the Christmas spirit. Check it out and enjoy. We all desperately need something light.  And that's what's up this let it snow (yea right- Winter who?) kind of Monday in the balmy city of New York. Yours, in a very Murray Christmas. Put a little love in your heart- and love, thy name is Bill Murray. XO

Here's a ranking of all of the performances if you are the spoiler type.
