Good morning, Friday. As you know, it's been a crazy few weeks and I'm finally back to myself and feeling more at one with the universe- today was the first time I was able to really breathe for weeks, and was so very happy to be home and settling back into life again. And yes, this post is coming at first light today, but I popped out of bed for some reason and am now fully awake and ready for whatevs after completing my latest assignment for work, which was producing a huge shoot for Converse that was awesome and completely stylish in the most effortless of ways, and inspired me to buy my first pair of Chucks since high school. (I adore them). Very hard to find pair that I spotted on Smith Street here in the BK, the blue ones here that were washed several times for that lovely finish before they came to me...http://www.highsnobiety.com/2011/11/16/converse-chuck-taylor-all-star-premium-denim-pack-spring-2012/...aren't they everything?
Which brings me to my current obsession with casual wear- talking great tees and tanks and jeans- I have been a dress girl for many years, but lately and probably since moving back to New York, I've been tots in the mood for a bit of my punkish roots, and with Summer very much here, it's hard to think of warm weather without the appropriate wardrobe, and since I have about 7 million dresses from my Miami days, I'm hearting on tees in a big way as must haves this season. Sure I know everyone owns tee shirts, but these in particular are great basics that are worth taking a peek at. On hot days, there's nothing better than a cool tee shirt, so here's Five for Friday: The Fits to a Tee all out "tee'd" edition:
T by Alexander Wang Slub Classic Muscle Tee- Having just completed two days of shooting where all the looks were very rock and roll cool, I can't help but fall for this great take on the classic muscle tee, which looks wonky in this photo but trust me- it's all that. I love AW's slouchy silhouettes and instant ability to make anyone look sexy, this one's a must have for skinny jeans, a knee length tight skirt, or a great basic top to toughen up a full, long hippie skirt and for fans of that off duty model look. In love. Must have. Done. Oh and try not to get carried away on the site- so much goodness there...restraint.
James Perse A Line tank- I am a huge fan of James Perse- whenever I wear his stuff, I'm immediately taken to a place of cool breezes, California sun, and glowy skin. This tank is a wonderful non clingy basic for those of you that may eat one too many lobster rolls this weekend at the beach. I love the ease of this piece- perfect with anything you can think of and surely a go to all Summer long. I for one can't have enough black tanks and this one is pure gold.
Rock tees from Chaser- I am a huge fan of this line of tees that are super rock and roll and awesomely comfortable. This little feminine cropped number is oh so perfect in every way and somehow manages to make that femme/tough thing as easy to achieve as throwing this great little top on. Adorable.
Wildfox Malibu Local tee- I dig this tee from Wildfox, who also specializes in rock tees and loose and comfy coolness. The sentiment is just right for Summer time, and being a Malibu local may not be possible for many of us mere mortals, but at least you can have the tee shirt.
Edith A. Miller tees- Ok so maybe you're not so rawkish and are looking for something more classic and chic this summer when it comes to your tee zone. I discovered Edith A. Miller, a uniquely made in America line that J. Crew collaborate with last year that has enjoyed a resurgence. This brand once made undershirts in the 1900s, but now have updated their takes on the classics for modern girls to enjoy. I spotted one of their great tees in a local boutique here in Brooklyn and instantly fell in love with the flattering ribbed silhouette- and these tees are not quite so tissue thin as some of the others out there, thus more flattering for those craving a bit more coverage- their multicolored striped numbers are simply the cutest thing ever, and wil go great with all your denim basics and will go perfectly with some cute shorts or some distressed boyfriend khakis too. Big fan I am. Oh and ps, the v and generous scoop necks are of that deep variety good for girls that are well blessed upstairs. Genius.
So as the heat continues to rise and long days give way to longer nights, I'm all about the basics this Summer to enhance my penchant for casual and cool clothes that can go just about anywhere you need them to. I'm not so into getting all gussied up these days- perhaps it's a reaction to my freelance and often working at home lifestyle or it's just being back in New York where great basics are as much a part of my every day life as good coffee and walking. I'm all about cute rockish looks that provide an instant jolt of cool into the girliness of my Summer wardrobe- a great way to cut out the fuss and bring in the simple. It's just too hot for anything else. Cause that's what's up this talking tees kind of Friday in the 212. All the love for a wonderful and comfy/casual weekend.
Oh, and happy Pride to all my gays this weekend in Nuevo Yorko and everywhere- youv'e come a long way, baby. I'm sure those wedding invites are in the mail. XO
