Boy shorts

Good morning, my little Monday. What a spectacular weekend in New York- I was in Philly for the holiday on Saturday and came back to New York yesterday afternoon- there's nothing like New York on Easter, and although I didn't have time to get to Central Park to hat gaze, there were plenty of swells strolling up and down Court Street right here in Brooklyn. The dog and I took a long jaunt and the weather was spectacular.

And with the weather getting warmer, it's definitely time to think of what to wear for Spring and Summer, and you boys are no exception. And I'm just going to say it- I'm a leg woman. Pure and simple. I love guys with good legs, and have always loved the cute and casual look of shorts on guys in the summer time- see boys- you're not the only ones who like a bit of exposed skin as the mercury rises, we ladies like to see your stems too.Anyway, I was passing by this cool men's vintage shop on Court Street called Olaf's that sells all sorts of cool vintage things for the boys- and the sign outside was calling for death to cargo shorts, and long life to cut off khakis. I couldn't agree more- the cargo short, though now a classic, should make its way to the back of your closet- why not take some of your old khakis and cut those bad boys to above the knee and make more like a surfer than a survivalist this Spring? (Cargo shorts are so Bear Grylls). And though denim cut offs can be ok on certain types, they hover too closely into hipster territory for my taste- so they must be approached with caution- consider yourself warned.  Now as an update, I took some heat for posting a crappy picture of some baggy ass cut off I found this am to try and illustrate my point- it's true the original pic did not do justice to the shorts I am recommending. So I posted this pic instead. Yea, don't do this. Ever...I know not who these men are, but oy....I'm seeing men in shorter shorts and I gotta say, I'm not so sure about it. Very, very few can pull it off, like 1 in ten billion. Best not attempted...

But if you're down for snipping a pair of your old pants and find the above photo as amusing and horrifying as I do, I think a little trim is a cute spin on the traditional khaki, and as the warm months prevail, those frayed and cut khakis can only get better with age. Pair with a simple white tee and some Converse like this headless guy here, or go for a crinkly and light button down shirt with some flip flops and you'll be golden. I love a slightly preppy look for men in the summer months, so go forth and cut up some khakis, and let all of us see your legs, who are as in need of a litte sun as the rest of you.  And while you're at it, it's also kinda cute to cut up those old army pants too- also a very cute look for sunshiny days. I myself am a huge fan of Army/Navy stores and can't get enough of their often cool and authentic options for urban gear and beyond- just go for the ones without the cargo pockets to switch it up a bit.

Cause that's what's up this boyish edition of the old blog this seasonably delicious Monday in the 718. Go forth and make some shorts and show us your gams, and do a couple of extra lunges while you're at it... XO
